Expressionist Foam Prints

These prints were inspired by Kathe Kollwitz and her German Expressionist work that always portrayed social issues. 7/8 Visual Art students created two sketches that they transferred to foam plates. One was a human showing expression and the other was a repetitive design of their choice that filled the plate. Students printed each plate and also printed one over the other.

Greek Black Figure Vases

The 6th grade students spent a lot of time learning about the Ancient Greeks, They created paper vases first using black oil pastels.

Art Room Bulletin Board

Then they began work making paper mach vases. Working with glue, balloons, and newspaper was quite messy, but they worked hard to get cleaned up most days.

Scratch Art Collages

Mandalas

Inspired by the sand paintings of Tibetan Monks, students in 7/8 Visual Art designed these mandalas using colored pencils.

Spirit Week: Fifties Day

Mobiles

First, the 7/8 Visual Art students studied each others' faces and did quick blind contour drawings like those of Alexander Calder. Next, they began wire face sculptures using wire and Twisteez.



After the wire faces, students began studying Calder's mobiles and studied color schemes and geometric and organic shapes. They cut shapes, painted them in chosen scheme, and built wire mobiles using fishing line.







Then the room started to fill with mobiles hanging from the ceiling everywhere, along with the dreamcatchers from a previous project.

Dream Catchers

Inspired by Native American Chippewa art, students found an animal with traits they identified with. They created a chalk wash on Chinet plates and learned how to weave and wrap yarn to create these hanging symmetrical dream catchers.
